Angela and Brian’s kitchen is due for an update. We’re taking down a wall, removing much of the flooring throughout the main level and updating all kitchen components. Angela and Brian worked with designer Nicole Duguay of Solace Interiors to make design choices.

day-16-fresh-reno-ottawa-renovation-contractor-kitchen-manotick-nepean-kanata-barrhaven

Chrystal and JC made big changes to their house. They swapped the living room and the kitchen.

First we demolished the living room and made it into a kitchen. This way they could still use their current kitchen, which was going to become a living room.

We opened the living room wall and found a disaster. Structural, plumbing and electrical all needed major work. We reframed the wall, then the plumbers and electricians arrived to do their part to transform the room from a living room into a kitchen.

Demolished the living room to find a wiring disaster.

Alex and Janine recently moved to Ottawa. We worked on their plans long-distance and it all came together so well.

Ripley looooooves to play tug with his octopus. (We started a new bathroom and kitchenette reno this week, but know you'd much rather see pictures of the dog than an empty space.)

Day 20: The kitchen is complete.

They’ve wanted this for 20 years. Jonathan and Aline are thrilled to be renovating their kitchen. As a Postpartum Doula and Certified Lactation Counselor with Helping Hands Doula, Aline does sometimes work overnight, but thankfully has another place to sleep while we make lots of noise.

Kitchen reno day 3: That's the basement down there. Whoever did the previous kitchen renovation did a great job. The flooring layers were so well adhered that the old tongue and groove floor boards failed when we tried to get the sub floor up. The only solution is to rip it a all out and start again.

Jacqueline and Ted’s Kitchen Renovation

Posted By: Tag: Kitchen | Comments Off on Jacqueline and Ted’s Kitchen Renovation

At Jacqueline and Ted's housewarming.

Jacqueline, Ted and I worked together previously when I renovated their bathroom in 2011. Repeat clients mean a lot to us, thanks guys.

This renovation includes:

  • Updating the kitchen.
  • Re-working a wall to house a 3-sided fireplace between the dining room and living room.
  • Building a feature wall in the master bedroom to create a dressing area.
  • Turning a hallway closet into a bathroom storage area.
8
before: kitchen and tiny opening into dining room.
10
Day 1: Removed drywall to prepare for the 3-sided fireplace.
Discovered an electrical nightmare and called in Steve, our electrician.
7
Day 1: Simple hallway open closet becoming custom bathroom storage.
11
Day 5: We put up a new half-wall partition to create a dressing area for Jacqueline.
12
Day 5: The wall formerly know as ‘electrical nightmare’ is now on its way to being a 3-sided fireplace.
13
Day 6: Kitchen opening to dining room made from tiny hole (see picture above for ‘before’) into
a huge 7′ x 5′ opening.
14
Day 8: Jacqueline and Ted are evolving the kitchen plan in a huge way… We are now blowing out the entire left-side wall. It’s going to look great and create the open feeling they want.
4
After-work belly rubs with my rescue dog, Yoda.
15
Day 12: three-sided gas fireplace is installed in the wall formerly known as ‘electrical nightmare’.
16
Day 13: Looking into the kitchen through the opening we made larger. Electrical and drywall done. Next week is the kitchen installation.

The bathroom is adjacent to a hallway closet, which Ted and Jacqueline didn't need. So, we closed-off the hall way closet, then used the space to create a custom bathroom closet.
