Nadine and Chris’ Kanata Basement

Days 1 and 2: Framing walls and doorways. |
Nadine and Chris are renovating their sunny Kanata basement to give their daughter a space to practice dance (away from her younger brother) and have another room to play.
The couple had already framed and insulated the exterior walls before deciding they wanted professional assistance for the rest, to finish the project by Christmas.

They’ve opted to leave the ceilings open and painted. It’s an industrial look, like you see in contemporary restaurants. Really looks good.

Day 9: stained doors and trim installed. |
Day 8: Chris and Nadine stained and painted all the pine doors and trim themselves. Nice medium-brown colour.
Looks like we’re running ahead of the 2-week schedule. I’ll post pictures of the finished job tomorrow.
Day 9: We finished installing the stained doors and floor trim installed, plus painted trim along the ceiling. Project done.
Nadine and Chris will be installing the laminate flooring themselves. We had time at the end of the day, so brought all 80 boxes of flooring from the garage to the basement. It needs to acclimatize for at least 24 hours before being installed.
